ABOUT JAMAICA PHOTO TOUR

This tour focuses on photographing the endemic birds of Jamaica with particular emphasis on the more spectacular species such as Red-billed and Black-billed Streamertails (Hummingbirds), Jamaican Mango, Yellow-billed Amazon, Jamaican Tody, Jamaican Owl and more.  In addition, it’s a good time of year for photographing North American Wood Warblers with stunners such as Cape May and Black-throated Blue Warbler likely.

Includes all lodging, meals, guiding, and entry fees.  Does not include flights to reach Montego Bay, Jamaica, drinks other than drinking water and items of a personal nature such as laundry and phone calls.

2028 costs: $4,695 photographer, $4,095 nonphotographer, $700 single supplement.

Number of Participants: 6 photographers plus any nonphotographer spouses or companions. 

Itinerary

January 15th – Arrival at Montego Bay airport and transfer to a nice hotel near the airport, introductory dinner.  Accommodation: A nice lodge in Montego Bay near the beach.

January 16th – Morning visit to a local bird sanctuary where we will photograph some of Jamaica’s most iconic species, including Red-billed Streamertail, Orangequit, White-crowned Pigeon, Caribbean Dove, Jamaican Woodpecker, Jamaican Oriole and White-chinned Thrush.  Accommodation: A nice lodge in Montego Bay near the beach.

January 17th – Early morning visit to Rocklands Bird Sanctuary, one of the best places in Jamaica for hummingbird photography. Here we will spend time photographing hummingbirds at close range to capture better images. In the late afternoon we will photograph coastal species such as Brown Pelican, Magnificent Frigatebird, Ruddy Turnstones and other birds along the shoreline.  Accommodation: A nice lodge in Montego Bay near the beach. 

January 18th – Morning visit to the Sanctuary then check out and drive from Montego Bay to Port Antonio (four hours) We will check in to our four-star hotel which is located in the forest.  We will have our first look for Jamaican Todies and other endemic birds such as Jamaican Spindalis.  Accommodation: A four-star lodge in the forest. 

January 19thToday we will visit another lodge which has hummingbird feeders which attract two spectacular species the Black-billed Streamertail and the Jamaican Mango.  Jose will set up flowers near the feeders to help produce beautiful images.  In the afternoon we will return to our hotel and in the evening look for the Jamaican Owl.  Accommodation: A four-star lodge in the forest. 

January 20th – In the morning, we will be photographing on our lodge grounds.  Other species can be found around the gardens and surrounding vegetation include Jamaican Spindalis, Jamaican Pewee, Vervain Hummingbird, Black-throated Blue and Cape May Warblers, Ring-tailed Pigeon, Olive-throated Parakeet, Sad Flycatcher, Green-rumped Parrotlet, Greater Antillean Bullfinch, and Yellow-billed Amazon.  In the afternoon we will visit some local cliffs where we can photograph White-tailed Tropicbird in flight.  Accommodation: A four-star lodge in the forest.

January 21stOne more morning photographing the various species at our lodge, then we will check out, have lunch and return to Montego Bay.  We will have our final group dinner.  Accommdation: A nice lodge in Montego Bay.

January 22nd – Transfer to the airport for your return flight home.
