September 11th – One more morning photographing Jaguars and Giant Otters from the boat then we will transfer to our next lodge, Pousa Alegre. This is a good lodge to photograph waterbirds such as Sunbittern and Grey-necked Wood Rail. In the evenings it’s often possible to photograph the elusive Ocelot here. Lodge: Pousa Alegre
September 12th – We will spend the morning at Pousa Alegre, which is a good lodge to see Tapir at, then we will transfer to Rio Claro Lodge. This afternoon we will take a boat trip on the Rio Claro River. Here we will be able to get flight shots of Black-collared Hawks and Great Black Hawks, Cocoi Herons, Jabirus and Kingfishers as they are attracted with fish. Caimans and herons such as the beautiful Rufescent-Tiger Heron can also be photographed on this trip. The feeders at this lodge attract Chestnut-eared Aracaris and lots of Yellow-billed Cardinals. Lodge: Rio Claro
September 13th – After breakfast we will drive back up the Transpantaneira to Cuiaba, photographing along the way and then take a flight from Cuiaba to Campo Grande. Hotel: A nice hotel near the airport.
September 14th – After breakfast we will transfer to our next lodge, Pousada Pequi, in the heart of the Southern Pantanal. We will have an afternoon session photographing at their feeders which attract many Blue and Gold Macaws and Nanday Parakeets as well as some Hyacinth Macaws. Accommodation: Pousada Pequi.
September 15th – We have a full day of photography at Pequi. We will have vehicle safaris in the surrounding savannah and wetlands to photograph Giant Anteaters, Southern Tamandua, Crab-eating Foxes and a wide variety of birds such as Greater Rheas, Buff-necked Ibis and Fork-tailed Flycatchers. We will also spend more time photographing birds at the feeders, Toco Toucan is a regular star bird here as well. Accommodation: Pousada Pequi.
September 16th – One more morning photographing at Pequi, then we will transfer to the Bonito area. Our main location for photography here is Buraco das Araras, where beautiful Red and Green Macaws fly through a sandstone crater, which creates wonderful backgrounds. Hotel: A nice hotel in Bonito.
September 17th – We will have both morning and afternoon sessions at Buraco das Araras. In addition to the Red and Green Macaws there are some pairs of Blue and Yellow Macaws as well as a few hybrids at this location. September 18th – We will have a morning photography session, there is another good location for Giant Anteater near Bonito or we may do a bit of landscape photography at the beautiful, crystal-clear lagoons nearby.
