Itinerary
September 13th – Arrival to Juneau, Alaska, transfer to a nice hotel near the airport.
September 14th – Morning presentation on wildlife photography, followed by a 4.5-hour ferry ride up the inside passage to our destination. During this ferry ride we should see and photograph Bald Eagles, marine mammals and seabirds. We will arrive to town and check in to a nice historic hotel. If time allows, we will have our first session with the bears this afternoon.
September 15th-20th – We will have 6 full days of Alaskan Brown Bear photography. There are typically cubs in the area. The bears are feeding on the Pink Salmon run and teaching their young how to fish. We will spend a lot of time with the bears but it should be noted that while there are consistently Brown Bears fishing with their cubs at this location, there are not large numbers of bears (typically 5-15). While the bears will be our primary photography focus there are other good subjects including numerous Bald Eagles which feed on the spawning salmon also. There is a small lake near town which usually hosts Trumpeter Swans. Drives up into the mountains produce beautiful landscape photography, with potentially fall colors at this time of year. Lastly September is typically good for the amazing Aurora Borealis as long as we get clear skies at night.
September 21st – One more morning of Brown Bear photography then we will catch the ferry back to Juneau, Alaska keeping watch for marine mammals and seabirds on the way. Then we will check in to a nice hotel near the Juneau airport.
September 22nd – Transfer back to the airport for your return trip home. If you would like to spend another day or two in Juneau, there is good whale watching at this time of year and a few companies which run trips for that.
