OLYMPIC PENINSULA PHOTO WORKSHOP
June 19-23, 2022
June 18-22, 2023
Photo Workshop: This workshop visits both the mountains and the coast of the wild Olympic Peninsula of Washington State. We will spend two days photographing at Hurricane Ridge which has beautiful landscapes, Black-tailed Deer, the endemic Olympic Marmot and interesting birds such as Sooty Grouse and Gray Jay. We will also spend two days at rocky beaches on the Washington Coast where a wide variety of birds can be photographed along with tidepools and beautiful landscapes.
Cost and Logistics: Cost is $2,650 per photographer with a $300 single supplement, nonphotographer spouse $1,950. The workshop will depart from the Best Western in Silverdale, Washington midday and can be an extension of our Orcas and Eagles workshop. We can arrange an airport transfer and hotel on the night of the 18th for cost if you are flying in. Ken can drop you at the airport or a hotel near the airport on the afternoon of the 23rd.
Workshop Leader: Ken Archer. Ken will give classroom presentations for those who are interested and he will help you with in field instruction. Ken is an award winning wildlife photographer with extensive experience photographing on the Olympic Peninsula.
Maximum Participants: 5 photographers plus any nonphotographer spouse/companions.
Itinerary:
June 19th - We will meet mid day at the Best Western in Silverdale, Washington and depart about 2pm for the Olympics. We will spend the late afternoon and evening on Hurricane Ridge. This is a scenically beautiful area where the workshop leader took an image that won first place in the landscape section of "Nature's Best Photography Contests". In the evening we will return to our hotel: A nice hotel in Port Angeles, WA.
June 20th - We will spend the full day in the mountains in the Hurricane Ridge area. We will hope to find Black-tailed Deer in the wildflowers, photograph the endemic Olympic Marmots and look for birds such as Sooty Grouse, Gray Jay and others. Hotel: Port Angeles, WA.
June 21st - One more morning at beautiful Hurricane Ridge then we will check out. We then and proceed to our next hotel in Seiku, Washington near the Northwest tip of the lower 48. We will look for photography targets such as Bald Eagle, Harlequin Duck and others in the afternoon. Hotel: Seiku, WA.
June 22nd - This morning we will visit Ruby Beach. This is a good area for shorebirds which like rocky beaches such as Black Oystercatcher and Black Turnstone. There are beautiful landscape photo opportunities and macro photo opportunities of sea stars and tidepools. We will be on the lookout for Otters as well here. In the afternoon we will visit the Hoh Rain Forest. This is one of the northernmost rain forests in the world. We will look for Roosevelt Elk here and photograph birds such as Steller's Jay. In the evening we will return to our hotel in Seiku, Washington.
June 23rd - This morning we will visit Neah Bay, the Northwestern most spot in the lower 48. This is a good location to photograph Bald Eagles, Harlequin Ducks and other species. There are often big male Steller's Sea Lions hanging out in the marina here. We will then check out and head back to the Sea-Tac airport area. We can drop you off for a late afternoon flight or at a hotel near the airport.
